This old-fashioned baked apples recipe was created by Mrs Harry Brillinger of York, Pennsylvania, and it was published in Better Homes & Gardens magazine back in September 1942. Her original name for the dessert was “Baked Apples Delicious.”

Old-fashioned baked apples
Raisins and walnuts, delicately flavored with the flavors of cinnamon and orange, are wonderful surprises awaiting you with your first spoonful of these delicious old-fashioned baked apples!
Ingredients
- 6 medium sized apples, cored
- 1/2 cup raisins, seeded or seedless
- 3 tablespoons
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup chopped California walnut meats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup orange juice
Instructions
- Arrange apples in a greased baking dish.
- Fill centers with raisins.
- Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and butter; mix until crumbly; add walnut meats; sprinkle over (and into) the apples.
- Pour water and orange juice around the apples.
- Bake in a moderately hot oven (375 F) for 1 hour, basting the apples every 15 minutes.
- Serve with cream, plain or whipped, if desired.
