- 1-1/2 teaspoons orange flavor liqueur (or additional orange juice)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 375 F. Place sheets of foil on countertop for cooling cookies.

- In a separate large bowl, combine brown sugar, shortening, orange juice, vanilla and orange peel.
- Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until well-blended.
- Beat egg into the creamed mixture.
- Combine flour, salt and baking soda.
- Mix into creamed mixture until just blended.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop by rounded tablespoons about 3 inches apart onto an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375 (F) for 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Do not over-bake.
- Brush on cookies immediately after removing them from the oven.
- Remove cookies to foil to cool completely.
Notes
Variation: Place brown and orange candy-covered chocolate pieces (like m&ms) on the top of the cookies before baking.
