The plastered white living room chimney seen here was unique: it was set away from the outside wall, and hovered over the hearth rather than connecting to it.
The wall had a continuous high window so that these lush green plants could grow tall in the space between the wall and the raised hearth. This helped create the illusion of a little open patio. Built-in benches helped enhance the room’s relaxed style.
Near the airy white fireplace, there were charming bursts of bright color from the pair of yellow modern chairs and the royal blue stool — both with chrome supports. The kelly green cushions on the simple futon-style sofa mirrored the vibrant color of the flora.

Another bit of color to balance the room: the purple-red flowers. They rested on the low white square Carrara marble table. Floors throughout the house were white terrazzo.
At the other end of the living room, broad shallow steps leading down from the front hall created a dramatic entrance.
