Your driving habits have changed — and so has the Wide-Track Pontiac (1961)

You probably spend a lot mere time in your car than you used to. More stop-and-go city driving. More short trips. More long ones, too. You park, get in and out of your car more often.

Pontiac has kept pace with you. Doors are wider to ease your getting in and out. There’s more room inside. Yet, there’s a more parkable, garageable, maneuverable size, Excess weight has been carefully trimmed to give you go that goes easy on gas.

In town or country. Pontiac takes the effort out of roadwork. Curves and corners come and go, but you sit steady and straight, thanks to the built-in balance of Pontiac’s new Wide-Track, And Pontiac’s famous V-8 performance gives you a comforting confidence on a turnpike or in traffic.

If you want the car that’s changed as much as your driving habits, see your fine Pontiac dealer. Shown: The Bonneville Vista for ’61

Rich fabrics, fine appointments (and real genius) that’s what Pontiac interiors are made of

This is just one of 42 interiors which make you so proud to open the door of a ’61 Pontiac. There are 14 choices of interiors in the Catalina alone.

In certain Bonnevilles, you may find yourself asking if the soft wool/nylon stripe material is available to your tailor. (Only if he procures it from a Bonneville.) Even if you look twice, you’d say the Jacquard cloth in a Star Chief is studded with real diamond chips. (An effect created by our weavers.)

Prize real leather? It’s regular equipment in Bonneville Convertibles. We hand rub it. So will you. The Morrokide in the Ventura (and other models) is richly grained, lastingly handsome. Each handle, armrest and ashtray is designed, built and fitted with Pontiac’s traditional care for detail. The final inspection, of course, is reserved for you. Plan to make it soon at your fine Pontiac dealer’s.

THE ONLY WIDE-TRACK CAR: Pontiac has the widest track of any car. Body width trimmed to reduce side over-hang. More weight balanced between the wheels for sure-footed stability. Shown: Bonneville Sports Coupe in three-tone Morrokide

Any car that is this responsive, obedient and satisfying to drive simply has no right to be this good looking

You’re looking at the most beautiful Pontiac ever to ride on Wide-Track. (And we’ve had nothing but winners.) It’s completely new, from the distinctive sculpturing of the famous split grille to the slickest engineering innovation of the year — disappearing windshield wipers. (They only come out when it rains.) And only Pontiac has them.

Our ’67 Pontiacs are the most expertly engineered automobiles we’ve ever designed. There are new 400 and 428 cubic inch V-8s. New standard safety features, such as the energy absorbing steering column developed by General Motors, a dual master cylinder brake system with warning light, and a four-way hazard warning flasher.

New options you can order such as front wheel disc brakes, a hood-mounted tachometer, special Rally II wheels, and eighty minutes of sound-in-depth in the form of our new eight-track stereo tape system. Of course, the road-hugging security of Wide-Track is standard on every Pontiac. But you’ll discover all this at your Pontiac dealer’s when you go for a test drive. That is, if you’re not already there!

The 1968 Bonneville isn’t just another fantastic Pontiac

And all along you thought you had to forsake Wide-Tracking when you moved up to a luxury car.

We have no idea how this misconception ever got off the ground. For, as you can observe below, Bonneville isn’t just another fantastic Pontiac.

It begins with a long, lean body, poised on the biggest wheelbase we make-124 inches. Inside. you’re greeted by the opulence of nylon-blend broadloom that extends door-to-door and then some. Generous swathes of simulated burl-grained Carpathian elm abound on doors and dash. And upholstery is no less fine: everything from exquisite cloth and supple Morrokide, to all-Morrokide.

And if you’re the kind who requires even more pampering, there’s our Brougham Option. It includes extra touches of luxury like rich, cloth uphol-stery so stately you may not want to be seated. Bonneville a luxury car? Definitely. Wide-Track? The Widest. So who says Wide-Tracking has to end when you’re ready to move up. When your time comes. see your Pontiac dealer.

1990 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. A fast-moving tribute to our favorite wide open place.

The Bonneville Salt Flats were Ground Zero for Pontiac’s performance movement on Day One. And the Bonneville. SSE is a big, quick, powerful showcase for everything we’ve learned since then.

Underneath its imposing exterior is a roller-cammed, 3.8L 3800 V6 with sequential-port fuel injection. Its 165 horses are herded through a specially calibrated 4-speed automatic. The smooth-riding, sharp-handling 4-wheel independent suspension is augmented with an anti-lock brake system and automatic level control. All-season 16″ Goodyear Eagle GT+4 radials ride your choice of Cross-Lace or Aero-Lite aluminum wheels.

Inside, 12-way adjustable seats and duplicate steering wheel-mounted radio and climate controls lead off a list of ergonomically correct accessories. They’re a tactile link between you, the cockpit and the rolling thunder of Bonneville. All you need to appreciate it are the keys…and a pinch of the endless salt in your soul.
