Made with melted semi-sweet chocolate chips, these small cookies are covered with powdered sugar, which "cracks" the surface as it bakes, giving it a distinctive look.

Ingredients
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate pieces
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt 1 cup chocolate chips*. Stir until smooth; cool slightly.
- Beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Blend in eggs, vanilla and melted chocolate.
- Add combined dry ingredients except powdered sugar, stir in remaining chocolate pieces.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in powdered sugar, coating heavily.
- Place on greased cookie sheet; bake 10 to 12 minutes.
- Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet, then remove to wire rack. Store in airtight container.
Notes
* To microwave, place the chocolate chips in a glass container. Microwave on high 1 to 1-1/2 minutes; stir after 1 minute. Stir until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
