Here’s a tasty retro chocolate fudge recipe from 1984 for Fudge Krispies — essentially chocolate-covered Rice Krispies Treats! This easy recipe deliciously combines chocolate chips, corn syrup, powdered sugar, butter and vanilla with crispy rice cereal.

If you’re trying to remember a recipe from years ago, a very similar dessert from the 70s was known as Rice Krispies’ Wonder Fudge — “A fast, no-fail fudge with crunchy bits.”

PS: For an extra-chocolaty flavor, sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top right after you spread the cereal mixture in the pan.

Here's a tasty retro chocolate fudge recipe from 1984 for Fudge Krispies -- essentially chocolate-covered Rice Krispies Treats! This easy recipe deliciously combines chocolate chips, corn syrup, powdered sugar, butter and vanilla with crispy rice cereal.

For an extra-chocolaty flavor, sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top right after you spread the cereal mixture in the pan.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk chocolate morsels
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 4 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions

  1. In 3-quart saucepan, combine chocolate morsels, margarine and corn syrup. Stir over low heat until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
  2. Stir vanilla and sugar into the chocolate mixture. Add Rice Krispies cereal, mixing lightly until well-coated.
  3. Spread evenly in 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan that has been greased or coated with cooking spray.
  4. Chill until firm. Cut into 1-1/2-inch squares. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
