This cozy vintage living room decor from the late 1930s/early 1940s featured the kind of clean, crisp lines popular in early modern decor, but used some fanciful and fluffy furnishings to soften the room’s look for everyday use.
The plush, fringed light yellow/beige rug fit perfectly within the border of the linoleum floor, which immediately gave this living room from 1939-1940 a custom decorator look.
The unadorned modern-style fireplace — really not much more than a rectangular space cut out of the wall — was paired with a round mirrored alcove of a similar scale.
The two barrel chairs in front of the hearth were upholstered on the front with a pale yellow fabric tufted in a scallop shell shape. Both chairs were backed with a medium denim color fabric, which matched nicely with the paint color on the walls.

The small black and white marble table between the chairs — with a chess game in play — matched the feel of the patterned lino flooring.
Full-length yellow tieback curtains on the small bay window had ruffled and scalloped edges, complementing the seating.
The small brown curved sofa in the bay had two coordinating hourglass-shaped ottomans, both covered in dark blue plush, with accent cording of the same brown as the sofa.
