You’ve seen brick fireplaces, tall fireplaces, freestanding fireplaces… but what about a mouth-shaped fireplace with scalloped inner edges that looked a lot like teeth?
In this living room from the 1940s, the unusual little fireplace really called attention to itself. The eye was led on by the continuous wall at the left which led out of the room.
Elsewhere in the room, the trendy midcentury modern chairs shown here lent themselves to diverse groupings in the living area, but were unified by the free-shaped rug — its retro mod curves repeated in the low sofa table.
There was a delightful contrast and harmony of colors and textures — rough stone, gleaming marble, smooth wood, shaggy rug; dark floor, white cabinets and frames, and the massive stone wall.
