In this small retro dining room, a four-top chair and table set with clean, sculptured lines sat upon a yellow textured carpet.

The round tabletop, made from a warm brown teak-effect plastic, matched the color and tone of the horizontal wall paneling.

Seating was provided by four foam padded gold/yellow swivel chairs that had bases of tubed steel, which has been etched and finished to look like wood.

All of those elements taken together, this little dinette marked this scene as latter-era midcentury modern.

That was around the time when mod design became widely available with a range of colors and shapes, and — most important of all — was much more affordable than the modern styles of high-end designer furnishings.

Indeed, this photo was from an ad for Viko furniture from 1965, who made this cute mid century modern dinette set.

The decorators of this space also introduced a pink accent: the corner post between the paneled wall and the window wall was painted a medium pink.

The narrow fabric blinds in the full-height windows combined the yellow of the chairs and the pink of the post in a delicate mod pattern. Three simple white round glass pendant lights hung over the table.
